The 6th Edition of the TECNALIA Journalism Award for Communicating Technological Research and Innovation is being organised in 2012 with the theme “Innovation for Society”. It sets out to recognise the key role played by Media Professionals (Press, Radio, Television and Internet) in communicating research and innovation in public opinion, and consequently in promoting a scientific culture among citizens and Society in general.
The works presented should encourage the understanding and appreciation among citizens of the advances in technological research and innovation in the challenges facing society in matters like:

2 Health and Life Quality of Individuals
3 Conservation of Natural Resources
4 Competitiveness and Technological Development
5 The Digitised Society
The Prize is a total cash prize of 16,000 euros and the following four categories are established:
Print mediums: a cash prize of 4,000 euros.
Radio: a cash prize of 4,000 euros.
TV: a cash prize of 4,000 euros.
Internet: a cash prize of 4,000 euros.

6th Edition of the Tecnalia Journalism Award
The works entered for this Award must have the following characteristics:
Eligible for this award are media communications professionals who have published, broadcast or disseminated journalistic works signed in their own name or pseudonym and produced individually or in a team, in any of the formats indicated above between 1 January 2011 and 31 May 2012.
Each candidate may submit a maximum of two pieces of work.
The works may be submitted in the official languages of any of the European Union countries although the sending of a copy in Spanish is obligatory.
The Prize is a total cash prize of 16,000 euros and the following four categories are established:
Should the Jury so decide, it may establish any Special Mentions it considers appropriate for the works submitted, but these Special Mentions will not be eligible for any cash prizes.
The Prizes in each of the four categories will be single and indivisible ones, although they may be awarded to a piece of work produced in a team or in collaboration, as well as for various pieces of work linked to one and the same programme or article.
Any of the communications professionals who win one or more of the cash prizes of the Award may designate, in a bona fide way, an organisation –like for example the media company where they do their journalism work– so that it can be the direct beneficiary of the cash prize of the Award. The above shall be without prejudice to the fact that for the purposes of the public announcement of the award the professional or professionals shall be acknowledged as the winner or winners of the Award.
The jury for the 6th Edition of the TECNALIA Journalism Award for Communicating Technological Research and Innovation 2012 will be presided over by José Ángel Sánchez-Asiaín, Chairman of the COTEC Foundation, and will be made up of people with recognised prestige in the world of technological research and innovation and the mass media.
The jury’s decision in the 6th TECNALIA Journalism Award shall be by simple majority. In the event of a tie, the person who is the Chairman of the jury shall have the casting vote.
The Jury’s decision shall be final and no appeal may be lodged against it.
The decision will be announced by 31 December, 2012.
The Prizes will be given in the course of a ceremony organised for this purpose in which the Jury’s decision will be announced.
The deadline for submitting the works shall be 10 September, 2012.

The entry of candidates entails full acceptance of these rules and the Jury’s decision. The works submitted will not be returned.
TECNALIA reserves the right to spread the works submitted and will indicate the name(s) of the author(s), medium and date published, broadcast or disseminated as well as the status of the works selected by TECNALIA, for a maximum of six months, but in no case will this involve any economic exploitation of the works.
The ownership of the works shall be held by the author(s) or the medium in which the work was disseminated.
