Through this prize, it is intended to encourage the disclosure of Technological Research and Innovation.
The Corporación Tecnológica Tecnalia – made up by AZTI-Tecnalia, NEIKER-Tecnalia and TECNALIA Research & Innovation – has launched its 7th Prize for Journalism under the slogan “Innovating means building the future”, with a cash prize amounting to 16,000 euros. The deadline for submission of work is 30 September 2014.
The aim of this award is to recognise the key role of media professionals (press, radio, television and Internet) in the dissemination of Technological Research and Innovation in the public eye and, therefore, the encouragement of a scientific and technological culture in people and in society at large.
This prize is open to all media professionals who have published, broadcast or disseminated journalistic work under their own name or pseudonym, individually or as a team, in any of the modalities listed, between 1 January 2013 and 31 May 2014.
Works and deadline
The work presented must promote the understanding and appreciation among the population of the breakthroughs of technological research and innovation in the challenges faced by society in matters such as: Sustainable Development, the Health and Quality of Life of people, Conservation of Natural Resources, Competitiveness and Technological Development and Digitalised Society. The deadline for submission of work is 30 September 2014.
The Prize consists of a financial award amounting to 16,000 euros under the four following categories: Written media, radio, TV and Internet. The prizes, in each of the four categories, will be unique and indivisible.
The jury for the awarding of the 7th Tecnalia Journalism Prize will be comprised of persons of recognised standing in the world of research and technological innovation and the media.
The winner of the prize, with the collaboration of the companies BATZ, ESTANDA and INGETEAM, will be made known before 31 December 2014, and the prize will be awarded in a later event that will be organised for that purpose.
Last year, the winner of the Written Media category was Mr. Fernando Goitia, for his report “Export R&D?, yes, we can”, published in the XL SEMANAL supplement.
The winner of the Radio category was Ms. Eva Caballero, director and presenter of the programme “La Mecánica del Caracol” on Radio Euskadi.
The winner of the TV category was the team consisting of Ms. Irene Vaquerizo, Ms. Cristina Moreno, Mr. Fernando Rodríguez, Mr. Santiago Aguilar, Mr. Ildefonso Urban, Mr. March Folch, Mr. Javier Mula andMr. Miguel Ortiz, for their report “SMART CITY: Cities of the Future”, broadcast in the weekly Informe Semanal programme of TVE La 1.
Finally, the prize for the Internet category went to Mr. Guillermo Roa, for his report “Bio-artificial Hope” published in Basque on the website ALDIZKARIA.ELHUYAR.ORG.
In addition to these prizes, receiving a special mention were Mr. José A. Pérez, for the report “Genetic Modification?”, broadcast on the programme Escépticos on ETB 2 and Ms. Rosa M. Tristán, for the report “Science as an anti-famine agent”, published in the El Mundo newspaper.
The Corporación Tecnológica Tecnalia – made up by AZTI-Tecnalia, NEIKER-Tecnalia and TECNALIA Research & Innovation – promotes this Prize with the aim of recognising and encouraging the work of communication media professionals who promote and raise awareness of Technological Research, Innovation and Development among the Public, helping to create a more innovative Society.
