The survival of some animal and vegetable sources that are currently used to obtain certain biomolecules is questioned. Therefore, alternative bioproduction systems are being worked on, such as microalgae, to obtain compounds deriving from their secondary metabolites.
Dynamic cultivation techniques are used, based on monitoring and control of variables that indicate the physiological condition of these organisms, which determine the final productivity of biomolecules. As well as cultivation conditions, the biosynthesis of these compounds depends on the activity of certain enzymes of the metabolic pathway, regulated by gene expression. Therefore, work on the regulation of specific genes is being carried out, causing controlled alterations of the biosynthetic pathway in order to improve the production of relevant biomolecules.
